It was uncommon and deemed improper for a royal woman to engage so openly in spiritual practices, particularly singing and dancing in the streets as Mira did.

Her husband, Bhoj Raj, was somewhat tolerant of her spiritual pursuits, but after his untimely death in battle, her in-laws became increasingly hostile.
