Scaravelli Yoga Events in December

Treat yourself to yoga – you’re worth it!

This Scaravelli yoga approach is gentle, yet demanding. We work deeply, but with intelligence, so that the practice raises our awareness, helping us to make sustainable, healthy and nourishing choices, which will affect us and those closest to us, at all levels – physical, psychological and emotional.

Scaravelli yoga, is particularly helpful for those who are working with postural issues, lower back pain, stiff necks and shoulders and for those who are stressed, and need some space to learn how to deeply relax.

In this BWY workshop, we’ll explore how our legs are intimately connected to our sense of choice and personal agency and consider intelligent approaches to working with the powerful muscles of the legs and hips.

We first experience ourselves as individuals, separate from our mothers, as we begin to walk.  Taking our first steps, we start to express personal agency and preference.  We experience ourselves “growing up”,  as we literally reach away from the floor, into space and onward to adulthood.  As we grow and develop, we learn to find balance and discover how to stand on our own two feet.

This creates a connection between our experience of using the strong muscles of our legs and hips and selfhood.  There’s a strong association too, with personal autonomy and wellbeing.  So it’s no surprise that during the early lockdowns of the pandemic there was a marked increase in physical exercise as individuals expressed their desire to feel more control over their choices and movements.

During this BWY Workshop we’ll learn:

• Discuss the developmental role of the legs in creating a sense of individuality and personal choice
• Consider what’s happening when our knees lock or move into hyper-extension
• Investigate how we can build strength and support for knees that are prone to collapsing
• Examine how we can work with our legs and hips to help enhance balance and stability
• Reflect on how our movement choices impact our sense of self and wellbeing
• Explore the feeling of strength and support that arises from our legs and how this supports our mental health

This BWY Workshop is suitable for everyone with an interest in intelligent movement. May be particularly helpful for those working with related joint issues.

Yoga Class – Book Now Online

Yoga may be particularly helpful for those working with long term joint issues, cranky backs, or regular aches and pains and good for stress and sleep issues.

I teach yoga which offers a fresh and truly accessible approach to yoga. Each class will follow a theme which evolves from my personal research and explorations, so each class builds and develops from the material we covered in the previous week.

Although I’d love to see you each week and there are definite benefits from regular practice, I always take time to carefully explain the focus and what we’re doing in each pose, so you won’t miss out if you can’t make it.

Classes generally follow a similar structure – we begin lying on the floor, to breathe and settle, before gradually building into stronger or more challenging practices and then dropping back down into Savasana to rest at the end.

When I speak of “challenging practices” I’m not referring to pretzel-style poses – my approach to yoga focuses on building depth and awareness in simple positions. We may place our attention on one phase of the breath, or a specific body part or element of our physiology.

Whatever material we cover in class you can expect to:

• Move with more ease and clarity
• Learn approaches to downregulate your nervous system
• Undo and dissolve unnecessary tension
• Enhance your understanding of your body
• Explore your relationship with yourself, and others
• Relax and unwind with restorative breathwork and simple, meditative movement
• Leave feeling refreshed, calm and with a sense of quiet peace

This weekly class draws on the latest sports science to build strength and stamina and improve joint health.  We’ll explore the use of resistance and weights to help increase bone density and improve our mental health, sleep, confidence and resilience.  Especially important as we age, it’s recommended you bring some resistance bands and small hand weights (if you have them).

Why Strength Resistance?
Is it for YOU?

There are so many reasons why it’s beneficial to work more strongly, including:

• Get up and down from the floor safely and with ease
• Balance the effects of fluctuating hormones during menopause / andropause
• Fulfil your physical potential and maintain your strength, stability and resilience for the long term

Do you need any equipment?

We will use the following equipment:

Yoga Video Workshops

Over the last few years, we’ve been busy recording and editing all my yoga workshops and courses to make them available in digital form, so you can download and keep them forever.

We’ve also recorded some of my regular yoga classes to offer you the convenience of practicing whenever and wherever you are.

If you need some extra rest, then maybe Yoga Nidra is more your thing.  Make yourself comfy, wrap up in blankets and follow my voice as we travel through magical landscapes, dive deep into ourselves and explore the liminal space between waking and sleeping.

Whether you’d like to practice breathing, or learn more about anatomy and how our bodies are affected by our yoga practice, it’s all here for you.  If you’d like to dive in deeper, you’ll find the workshops I taught with Gary Carter and if, like me, you are working with lower back issues, join me live, or connect with the recordings of my Yoga for Back Care Course.

I do hope you find something here that’s helpful and nourishing and look forward to hear about your experience.  Oh, and if there’s something you’d like to hear more about, let me know – I’d love to hear from you.

All videos are recorded into the MP4 format, one of the most common file formats used on the internet today.
