A month ago I had the good fortune to be able to attend 3 group classes a week for 3 weeks. It was an amazing reminder of how regular practice makes me feel and how it helps my body and mind operate with so much more efficiency, freedom, and mobilisation.
I practice quite often as it is; being a Yoga teacher, but it might not always look like a full class; it can be areas I am interested in at the moment or just pranayama for example. But going to those structured classes every two days or so really feels like this is the difference between doing Yoga or doing YogaPlus.
What is the difference? Doing Yoga once or twice a week is fantastic. It supports body maintenance, some mobility work is great, clears the mind for an afternoons work. It reminds the human that it is a moving thinking being. However, doing YogaPlus felt really different. It really allowed my mind some clarity, my body systems to regulate better and my breathe to be a bit freer during the whole week – or for the whole 3 weeks.
So what stops me getting to a group class more often?
That is the question for all of us, right? For me it is both working out a schedule of classes that fit into my timetable and sticking to it, blocking out the diary and not giving into other pressures, and reprioritising my own mental attitude to my well-being or health. It is a tricky balance, but my clarity of mind and openness of body makes me more focussed and efficient in what i then choose to do for the rest of the day.
